The Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem’s Department of Photography, in cooperation with the City of Ashdod, is proud to present a new exhibition: “Bezalel in Ashdod”

Curators: Noa Zayit, Nir Evron and Noa Zdaka

Date: Wednesday 23 November  2011
Time: 7pm
Place: Old commercial center of Ashdod – Aleph District

The “Bezalel in Ashdod” exhibition is the continuation of a successful collaboration between the city of Ashdod and the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. The partnership began two years ago with the successful exhibition, “Bezalel at the Port” at the Ashdod Museum of Art – MonArt Center.

The exhibition, which will be displayed at the old commercial center of Ashdod – Aleph District – summarizes the work of about 120 students and faculty of the Department of Photography at Bezalel, who were guests in the city for a week during November 2010.

During their stay, the students and faculty took photos of the different facets of the city and its fascinating and diverse sites: people and buildings, streets and parks, industrial and commercial areas, in the homes of the residents themselves, and wherever the buzz of the city could be found.

The starting point of the exhibit was to concentrate on a single city, as it references examples of compassion, beauty and kindness, but also encompasses art criticism and conflict documentation – the result being a vivid, courageous and real-life picture of the city.

Greetings:

Dr. Yehiel Lasri, Mayor of Ashdod
Professor Arnon Zuckerman, President of Bezalel Academy
Miki Kratsman, Head of Department on Photography, Bezalel

The opening event will also include a street party, music and live performances

The exhibition will be on display for two days only – Wednesday and Thursday, November 23-24, from 18:00 – 23:00.

The photographs and video works will be projected on screens, and will also hang in various places throughout the commercial center.

Ends
