The Moshe Castel Museum of Art

Castel's early works of art were inspired by this landscape, and give added meaning to the building and the art pieces displayed there.

From the beginning (1982), Castel chose this location out of love, and true to his own way, he was determined to make this choice ultimate.

This was a decision related to vision, a mutual decision of Moshe and Bilha, his wife and partner in this mission.

Castel's brilliant choice of this location as a summary of his works became intertwined with the wonderful abilities of the architect David Reznik, who miraculously integrated the artist's work, the city of Jerusalem and the city of Maale-Adummim.

Looking inside the museum and glancing at the scenery outside creates an extraordinary meeting with the landscape that changes by the seasons, day by day, and hour by hour. This is the fiery dynamic background of Castel's art work, whose roots are in the past and present, while looking to the future, rolling towards new horizons.

Ironically, the Bezalel Art School on Mt. Scopus where Castel took his initial steps into the world of art can be seen from the museum.

Moshe Castel, If he was here, would without a doubt, put his signature next to David Reznik's on this special building, which is a tribute to two distinguished artists for their contribution to Israeli art at its best.

The museum was opened on the 7th of Adar, 5700- Moshe Castel's 100th birthday. It is also the birth date and date of death of Moshe Rabbenu.

The actual building of the museum has taken longer than expected because of funding, but the choice of Castel's birth date is by no means coincidental.

Directions to the Museum:

From the Main Entrance of Maale Adumim:

Pass the check point and continue straight through 2 traffic circles. At the 3rd circle with the statue of a white bird, go left (with the mall on your right hand side). You will pass 2 more circles (library on your right and then a sculpture of a bicycle) at the following circle (where there is a sign saying "Kupat cholim Leumit") turn left on Rehov Hechalil. Continue straight for about a kilometer, you will see the view of Jerusalem on your left. The museum will be on your right.
 
Coming from the Dead Sea to to Maale Adumim:

Travelling on the main road, after passing the gas station in the industrial area of Mishor Adumim (on your left), turn left into Maale Adumim. Pass the yellow gate and drive straight through 2 traffic circles at the 3rd circle turn right (you will see a school on your right- Maale Hatorah and Mamlachti gimmel). Continue on the windy road. At the third circle which says "Kupat cholim Leumit") turn right on Rehov Hechalil. Continue straight for about a kilometer, you will see the view of Jerusalem on your left. The museum will be on your right.
