Mihrab & Minbar in Mosques

Every mosque in the world faces Mecca in Saudi Arabia and has both a Mihrab and a Minbar

The south-facing mosque in the photo below is located in the King David Tower in the Old City of Jerusalem and is a mosque from the Mamluk period during 13 century AD.  In the center of the prayer wall, known as a “qibla” there is a prayer niche, known as a “mihrab.”

 As you can see in the photo below, adjacent to the mihrab there is a “minbar” – a steps structure which allows the Muazin, spiritual leader of the prayer, to climb upwards and pray towards Mecca.
