The name Golgotha (Calvary) is the Greek transcription given by the New Testament and the place were Jesus was crucified

The Golgotha in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher is the most lavishly designed station and is attributed to be the place of Jesus’ crucifixion.

The name Golgotha is derived from the Aramaic word ‘gulguta’ which means ’skull’.

Later, the word was translated to Latin and became known as ‘calvary’ which means ‘place of skulls’. According to Christianity this is the specific place where Jesus was crucified – on a small hill, outside of Jerusalem’s walls 2,000 years ago.
