The Emmanuel Church Bell Tower

Since the time of the Ayyubid Period (13th century CE) it was forbidden to ring church bells (and also to blow the shofar in synagogues) in Jerusalem
Ron Peled, AllAboutJerusalem.com

The bell in the courtyard of the Emmanuel Church next to the Jaffa gate of the Old City was brought to Jerusalem in 1854.

The Emmanuel Church bell was the first of its kind to receive permission to ring it – as a result of cooperation between the British and the Turks during the Crimean War.

This was the first church bell to be used by a church after hundred of years it was forbidden.
