The bridge was designed by Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava and was completed in 2008 after three years of constructions and cost around 60 million dollars.
The goal of the String Bridge was to add a defining visual element to Jerusalem’s skyline and also had a more practical purpose which was to solve Jerusalem’s traffic and pedestrian issues with the Jerusalem Light Rail (that has yet to be completed).

The design of the bridge sparked much controversy as many people contended that it was not unique to Jerusalem and that it is simply “out of its element”.

Nevertheless, the white Bridge of Strings has become a symbolic part of Jerusalem and can be seen from miles away.
